Solara passenger door electric question

So guys, my first post on these forums, been reading for a while now, finally ran into a problem that prompted me to register an account

I recently fitted LED lights in my passenger door, I thought it was safe to take the 12V from the window control. I had always been taught that blue was live/positive, green was ground and used this theory in fitting my LED's. I placed 4 in my speakers if anyone is interested.

Anyway, turns out green wasn't ground, and after a few days of the LED's working, they stopped.

I removed all the stuff, took the switch apart to find the switch terminals had been blackened by short circuit maybe? I'm not an electrician, it was a failed attempt at putting some nice lights in my car.

The window switch has completely stopped working, and the lights have, I found that if i ground the window switch to the metal chassis I can still get the window motor working, but this isn't really a solution. It just tells me that maybe ground was damaged? I don't know.

Can anyone help?

Rule #1: Buy a multimeter before playing with wires!
Rule #2: If you don't know what your 100% doing when it comes to electronics, don't do it alone!
Rule #3: The12Volt.com is your friend.
Rule #4: RED is + and BLACK is - 99% of the time. No blue and green.

If I remember right, The blue and green wires have to do with the power door locks. IMO, I'd check the12volt.com for information on where you can get a proper 12v constant source and then check it with a multimeter. Then check ALL the fuses. Chances are you just blew a fuse somewhere...hopefully.

I didn't mention that I checked the mutlimeter on all of them and they are live.

I also checked the interior fusebox and no fuses relating to the doors/windows/locks were blown.

The only problem seems to be ground is missing?

I just looked up my wiring diagram.

http://www.the12volt.com/installbay/...tail/2124.html

Quote:
Windows Up LF=Green, RF=Green/White
Windows Down LF=Red, RF=Red/Blue
So there is still a question of what solid blue is?

And also, what does LF/RF mean?

LF= left front, RF=right front. Toyota uses negatively swicthed circuits. This means that most of the switches for electronics are always getting 12v when you put a multimeter to them. The way the circuit is completed is by pressing the switch and giving the circuit a path to a ground point. Make sense? So i doubt the ground is truely "missing". I guess we need to know what solid blue is.

Looks like you've done a decent job checking the basics. Time for a solara owner to chime in.

Just might refresh someones memory if they can see an image lol

If I add a ground to that first green wire, the window will go down but not up.
If I add a ground to that last red wire, the window will go up but not down.

The connector block is what I was using for my LED's, they did work at first. Fail, I know.
