Your transmission is slipping. The clutch packs are like brake pads. They wear out with time and ATF pressure can no longer apply them properly.
But this also means that even if they are fine, low ATF pressure can cause this as well. That's why others suggested checking the condition and level of the ATF.
Has the pan ever been dropped, strainer changed, and the pan/magnets wiped clean? Sticking valve body components can be another cause. A plugged strainer can do this too.
The only thing the owner can DIY is to change out the strainer, wipe the pan, and refill using High Mileage ATF, like Valvoline MaxLife. Cleanliness and fluid level accuracy are very important. See how this changes things, if any.
