Transmission clunk

My cars transmission has been acting weird. I have a 1994 camry V6 le. When i shift from park to drive after just starting it up there is a very loud clunk. Today this clunk didnt happen and my car started to rev whenever i hit the gas and i had to drift back a hill. now it is fine. Is this an indication of a transmission about to go?

Are you shifting into drive while the car is on an incline?

open the hood and shift from park to reverse to drive. see if the engine moves back and forth a lot. could be the front transmission mount(or any other engine mount for that matter), its a piece of shit mini hydraulic shock absorber that tends to blow out after 16 years =)

Also check the condition and level of the ATF. how long ago has it been changed and the pan wiped clean? The strainer ever changed?

^^ I'd start with that.

I've had the whole rev thing happen in Reverse two times a few years ago. I think that time is also when I got a P0770 code. As far as I can tell, replacing the transmission fluid helped a ton. The clunking could definitely be a sign of low fluid too.

Are you getting any check engine codes?
