Question 97 turn signal acting strange

hi,

the other day, left turn signal started to blink fast. that's typically means that one of the turn signal is out. sure enough, the front was out.

so today, i went out and got 1157A bulbs and put one in. it now blinks, but still fast. strange... since the package came with two bulbs, i put the other one in. still the same.

to be more precise
1. when the headlights are off, the left blinks about 1.5 x as fast as the right turn signal.
2. when the headlights are on, the left blinks about 2x as fast as the right turn signal.
3. with the headlights on or off, the left blinker 1/2 the brightness of the right turn signal.

i even sprayed all the connection with electric connection/contact cleaner and scratched the contact points with flathead screw driver.

any suggestion is appreciated.

tia

Replace all 4 blinker bulbs and if that does nothing replace the blinker relay.

This is gonna sound really primitive but smack the faster blinking turn signal with your fist. Not really hard but not softly. The whole problem is that the connection in there likes to get loose and act liek the bulbs burned out.

Works like a charm when my 98 does this.

Did you buy Sylvania long life bulbs? The cheap 99 cent bulbs tend to not withstand jolts or hits.

Used to happen to me alot. All I do to get rid of it is twist the the bulb a little, or take it out and put it right back in. Do this a couple times and on each try test it to make sure it isnt doing it any more. if it still happens get a new bulb.
