what oil types does everyone use for their 5s-fe im going to do an oil change here soon my oil cap says 5w-30 but i thought that was thin specifically designed for cold weather correct me if im wrong
My oil cap says 10W-30. I still go by that with 153,xxx miles on the engine. Still running strong. You can switch to 10W-40 if you want. I usually run 10W-40 in the summer. It really will not affect anything, except boost your peace of mind.

Look in you owners manual and consult the chart for oil viscosity vx ambient temp. You may be in a climate that 5w-30 will work year round or you may need to switch for different seasons. My manuals for every car lists at least two oils depending on the temp. I thought 10w30 would be better than 5w-30 once. A mechanic was changing the oil and I requested the 10w-30. He convinced me to try the 5w-30 for this change. The engine was smoother and quieter and i have stuck with whatever the oil cap calls for ever since.

i live in clearwater florida so its pretty much hot year round except for 1-2 months in winter which passed already for us so we got about 10 months of summer left lol i read somewhere on here that 5w-30 loses efficiency around 70 degrees i cant remember exactly what it was though. has anyone used the Lucas fuel injection cleaner or shell fuel injection cleaner before because i will be doing this on my oil change too
If you're always in the 10W-30 range then use 10W-30. Dino/2500-3000 miles should be fine, or try Walmart Synthetics. Use a good oil filter like Purolator PureOne PL14477.
The 5W shears down and you end up with a thinner oil. However, it does flow better for cold starts. But what's cold in FL? For your temperature range 10W should be a better choice, with less viscosity modifiers and more lube in place of them.
Synthetics are supposed to resist shearing better, so with these you might want to experiment with 5W-30 and see for yourself.
i have wondered this too. i've been changing my oil religiously since i got the car and i was doing pretty good with 10w-40 castrol high mileage oil and i recently switched to 5w-30 castrol synthetic...not really much of a difference so far.
ok people say that synthetic improves performance somehow so im thinking about using that but im not to sure about it you guys know anything about this stuff
