What you need to look for is a rod that goes parellel to the lock end of the door. The rods that are attached to the door lock and
INSIDE door handle have rods that extend to the
OUTSIDE door handle. From there, there's a separate rod that goes from the back of the outside door handle straight down to the center area of the door where it latches closed on the B Pillar. You need to get to that rod because that will allow the lock to latch and unlatch. The problem is whether or not it's actually hooked on. Without knowing if this is the problem, well, you'll have to figure that out

I've never been able to access that lock mechanism, and I've never needed to, but I'm sure (not 100%) there is a spring actuated tensioner in there too.
