3rd Generation 1993 Camry Owner with a few questions

I am in the process of buy a 1993 Camry Le and it runs awesome it has 200,000 mile on it. The seller told me that the engine started making a knocking sound when it started get cold here where we live. I met with him and heard it run checked it out the oil is clean the tranny fluid is clean. The car in general is in awesome shape. so my question is what would cause the knocking sound? When you step on the accelerator it goes away. He said a friend of his who is a mechanic in the airforce said it sounds like the exhaust. The engine doesn't shake at all. anything y'all could tell me would be a great help. By the way it has a 4 Cylinder Engine 2.2L/132 CID

It could be the exhaust. Can you take it to a mechanic you trust to check it out? If the seller balks at this, then I'd pass on the car.

^ I have to agree. Thee is no way anyone can tell you what a noise is unless we can hear a soundclip of the noise, so barring that, taking it to a professional tech is the right thing to do. The noise can be anything from a simple heat shield rattling, to an exhaust noise, to a noise internal to the engine. The latter is not good, so get it checked out before committing to anything.

For 6 bills, if the body is straight, I'd buy it. Bought my 92 with 190K 4 cyl automatic for $554. Reverse on a hill is no good, I just don't back up on hills.
