PO402 code fixed on my parents Avalon with the 1MZ-FE V6 after testing the VSV, EGRmodulator, and EGR valve it was the modulator that had failed the tests..For the price of a modulator at the dealers, we got a modulator and EGR valve on Ebay..But the real fix came when we looked in the intake (behind the EGR top flanged connection) and there was no hole through the crud in the intake.. Seafoam a tooth brush and lots of scrubbin later and there was a nice clean wide open port.. We installed the ebay buy and the light is gone..Thanks to the info on this site TOYOTA NATION

the P0420 code is a bitch to fix sometimes. glad you got it under control!

THANKS GUYS, I also wanted to mention I DID NOT USE ANY SCRATCHING DEVICE like a screwdriver or anything like that NOPE, it was scrub scrub scrub.. I got as much crud as I possibaly could out the EGR opening, the point being I tried to drop none of that crud into the intake..

I really hate to say this now that you've done it already - but maybe it would have been fixed just as well, by buying a new gasket for a few bucks and just cleaning out that hole - !

I AGREE 100% Thats one of the reasons I posted, maybe others can save the money..
