94 to 96 1mz-fe differences

I have a 96 lexus es300 w/ the 1mz-fe, had an oil pump failure, rod knock now.

I also have a 94 v6 camry with 1mz-fe as a running parts car.

I am going to swap the 94 motor into the 96 es300.

Is there anything that is not interchangeable to the cars? or can I just yank the motor/trans with wiring harness attatched and use the 96 ecm?

thanks

i believe youll have to swap the whole thing, ECM and all. the 94 uses a slightly different ignition system that i dont think is compatible with the 96.

Differences:

- the 94 uses a hydraulic fan system that runs off the p/s pump whereas the 96 uses an electric fan
- This may be the biggest problem, as you can't just swap the pumps over because they fit differently on the motors and the pulleys won't line up with the crank
- BUT what you can do is either plug up the extra hose line AT the pump that was designed for the fan, or reroute it so that it just goes back into itself

- the 94 uses a different ignition system - 6 coilpacks vs 3 coilpacks (but this can be swapped entirely)

- the 96 uses a different iac/electronic system - but you should be able to go around this by swapping the plenum (though, may not need to do this) or just the throttle body

So, theoretically it should work since the block is the same....BUT....during my swap, a 95 motor into my 94, there was one extra plug on the 95 harness that my 94 didn't have....and I couldn't figure it out... in my case, it didn't matter since I didn't have the sensor (whatever it was) anyway...but if you're going backward, you may be missing an additional sensor that wasn't designed to be on the 94 block

but as said as well...you can't do a direct swap since hte electronics are very different between the 94 and 06. At the very least, you'll ahve to swap the engine harness and then some other little things

Thanks for the info.

Looks like i will just use everything from the 94 including coils, intake, ecm, power steering and radiator.

I am just hoping that it will pass the obdII inspection to get a sticker. I think the 94 is obdII ready it has the same port as the 96 so i think it will be OK

the 94 is obdII compliant

only thing that you may have to worry about is if the ecu works well with the dash harness as well, but for that...I would just splice as needed instead of swapping the dash harness (if needed)
