3rd Generation Standing water in trunk

So I found about two inches of water in the trunk of my 95 camry where the spare is kept. I had prevously noticed that the carpet in the trunk was damp on the passenger side. To do a quick fix I pulled out the drain plug and drained out the water. Short term solution.

My main thing now is trying to figure out where I have a leak. Maybe my seals are bad?

I've never gotten in an accident that directly affected the trunk area.

Any thoughts are appreciated.

If the trunk seal is dirty up near the top, clean it.

Problem solved for me!

I had to replace the trunk seal. I also saw a few metal joints that looked suspect so I put a bit of silicone on them before installing the new seal.

I had a similar problem with my 99 Camry - whenever it would rain, there would be several inches of water in the space behind the left wheel. Looked everywhere but could not find any leaks (my car has an antenna inside the rear glass). Turned out that there is some find of a filter with plastic clips in that area and a few of those clips had broken off and the filter gasket wasn't snug with the body panel. Got a new filter from Toyota and never had a drop of water in the trunk since then. Good luck.

Easiest way to troubleshoot this is to have one person in the trunk with a flashlight while someone else sprays around the trunk lid and antenna seal. With the rear seats folded down, it's not even particularly uncomfortable.
