'00 Camry - Door Handles Won't Release Spring / Open Door

So, I'm halfway through replacing a broken driver door external handle. After re-installation (prior to door panel reassembly), I have closed the door to check things out. Now neither external nor internal door handles are releasing the "catch mechanism" to allow me to push the door open.

I can feel the rods moving as I try both handles (ext., int.) so they must have gotten unlatched somewhere below that.

Any suggestions?

Just a home mechanic precaution (from someone who has had a thirdgen Camry door panel off). - Be careful if you are putting your fingers and hands / arm inside the door - both for sharp edges and if the window mechanism moves, you could potentially get hurt! Before I work in a door, I put a couple boards in to reduce that risk.

Solution: Unlock the door.
