3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Curious as to what interval you "Higher Mileage" Gen 3 Camry Owners are changing your oil out at? I currently want to get the most mileage out of my 1993 3VZFE V6 LE. So I am adhearing to 5K mile intervals with a High Quality Synthetic such as Castrol Edge/Mobil-1 & a Toyota OEM filter.....
I change mine every 3,000 miles or 3 months. In fact i'm changing my oil and motor mounts tomorrow.
122k miles, and under the valve cover looks clean and completely sludge free. i use toyota OEM oil filter and mobil dino oil, 5w30.
As long as you change oil regularly it doesn't matter all that much what kind you run. On a high mileage engine i'd stay away from full synthetic unless you want to find every oil leak on the motor.

I had my Valve Cover Gaskets & Distributor O ring gaskets changed this past Fall at a Toyota Shop...They said my engine is incredibly clean at 115K miles. Also no leaks to speak of....
Castrol gtx high mileage 10w30 and a wix/napa gold filter every 3500 or so. Mixed in 3 quarts convetional and 1 quart mobile one last change and went almost 4k on it.
218.000 miles with dino at 4000 miles intervals, stick with what works. That "High Quality Synthetic such as Castrol Edge/Mobil-" is bull***. Every "high quality this and that oil" at 4 times the price it's a scam(unless you're racing on F1 with that camry). I wrote this few months back, take a look..my 2 cents Synthetic Oil vs Regular Engine Oil
I replace oil and filter every 2,500 - 3,000 miles or so. I have two vehicles and when one hits the 3,000 mile mark I just change oil in both vehicles. I use whatever name brand dino oil is on sale and a Toyota oil filter.
Every 5000 miles, back to the Toyota dealer, using redline synthetic.
They always left a sticker on my windshield said next maintenance is after 5000 miles.
1996 V6 LE, 107k miles. North Cali.
i think the toyota spec [for 92/93 3vz-fe] is every 7500 miles, and that was with the lesser oil they had back then. doing it every 5000 is probably overkill and may actually lead to more engine wear. check oil level every fill up or every few weeks, or after long trip. at least yo're not doing it every 3000 like the oil changers want.
I used to changed my oil every 10-20,000+ miles with Castrol GTX 5W-30. Trying to prevent engine failure NOW, I've been doing it every 3,000 miles with the same oil, and running some seafoam in there before the oil change.
