Australia Recoding 2nd hand Australian remotes

Hi I have just re-coded a second hand "Australian" remote to my 99 V6 Conquest Wagon (aussie delivered) after being told by EVERYONE it cant be done.

Wreckers wanted $800 for a whole new security system, dealer wanted $110 for a new remote plus coding cost.

I Just did it for $5.00 AUS

My remote is the oval (oblong) shaped remote with one grey button, cannot be opened to change battery as it is heat-sealed shut. I tried breaking a few spare ones open and putting new batterys from dick smith (around $4.50 aus) and taping back together, and that works; however the following sequence refers to getting a second hand remote from a car of same model year etc & coding to suit your car.

1 - go to the wrecking yard and get the same remote as yours (I paid $5.00)

2 - sit in vehicle, engine off, keys in ignition - doors shut.

3 - remote in left hand - use right hand to turn key from 'LOCK' to 'ON' three times. On third time stop at 'ON' position, now press remote once.

(Explained: lock, on - lock,on - lock on - press button)

Hazard lights will flash

4 - Turn keys back to 'LOCK' and remove from ignition.

5 - Press remote once and door locks will activate and hazards will flash.

Done

I have returned to the wrecking yard and bought all their remotes at the same cost of replacement battery's, so now If a remote dies I can code another and use it until it dies without busting the case open. Once they all die....I guess I'll have to but that wont be for a while - I hope!

ps I will try a few diff models and see if any are interchangeable and post again if anything eventuates from this.

Good luck I hope this helps save even one of you from spending too much at the mercy of the dealership.

Hey WOW... COOL

I am just having this huge drama now...

I lost keys and 'remote' in the surf... yeah stupid I know.

Sooo..

If I get new key cut, take my ignition to a locksmith, say...
and get a 'remote' clam shell transponder from wrecker like you did Auzzie..
from similar model, mine is 99 Tourer v6...
does the engine matter I wonder ?

Then following ur sequence...

I can save myself buying the whole shebang for a motza...

Does that make sense... or am I missing something ???

So the 'unit' must somehow re-learn from the new remote.. ??
I have had so many conflicting answers to this problem... omg
Im I the only person to ever loose their keys ???

Hey mate, the key itself on our cars has a transponder in it but I dont think you can buy the key in parts eg: the blade and the transponder separately. You probably have to get a new transponder key using your vin (vehicle identification number) and maybe even the code off the back of the door-lock barrel.

As for the remote (central locking) you can use the instructions in this thread to code a second hand one to your car BUT you will need the new key first.

Engine I dont think would make any difference just year and physical appearance of your remote. I have coded a few of the ones I got from wreckers and they are working nicely but Im yet to try a different remote and see If they work, eg oval with black button or used-aftermarket or something else.

Let me know if you cant find a remote and Ill get one of mine up to you as long as you fix me up for postage etc.

Call a local locksmith with good Auto know-how because you dont have a key to work off, if no luck - let me know and Ill ask around down here, I know of 2 deffinately and 1 possible places to try.

Good Luck
cheers

No I would never let you down, full respect from my side...

The remote was a seperate unit..

I bought the car second hand and so maybe I am not fully in the picture..
maybe I have just been using a 're-cut' key all this time..
omg more drama...

What must I have done..

Hey I love the car, but you don't want to lose your remote...

PM sent ok.

Thanks for offer of support.
