1992 Windom play in steering about centre

hi guys,

i just got the windom and noticed that it has quite a lot of play in the centre of steering, as in when i steer straight ahead i have to turn it (steering wheel) quite a lot before it turns...!?! is this like a worn component or just how it is? Its COMPLETELY different to the camry. thanks in advance for any input

sorry, an easy way to check the tie rods for play is to jack up the front and grab the tire at 9 and 3 oclock and wiggle. you would feel excess movement with the steering locked. if you can, watch the tie rod itself, to see if the play is coming from inside the boot (inner tie rod) or at the end where it meets the knuckle(outer, and easier to DIY)
