AC/Heater Vent flap control

Hey, Guys,

My '96 Camry wagon, V6, has a problem.

The various flaps that control where air is blown about do not seem to work.

The fan runs fine, and the rotary switch which is supposed to control the system works. Where is the device I need to check or replace, what is it called, and what is a fair price for one?

Damn! A '96, not a '76!!!!

Sorry, I mis-typed that.

It is a '96.

3rd Generation

I've got the same question on my '96 Camry, all heat/cool air controls work cept the vent control selector. Doesn't look like anyone post a reply so maybe a bump will get a response.

It has been very quiet

The system is largely electrically driven. There is a five position switch, the function of which I am confident.

I assume that there is a motor of some sort down in there, with linkages.

Now both my Toys from that period have had repeated failures of the little plastic links that end the rods in the doors that open the doors or lock them.

If it were to turn out that something similar has failed in my car I'd not be surprised.

And I will not be surprised that this is utterly buried behind the console. I really need someone to tell me what is up.

I know. I need to get some guy who is disassembling his Camery to get the V6 for his MR2......

I had some problems that I couldn't get any air to the floor. it would come out every where else it was supposed to but not the floor. Per this forum I found someone that said to look under the dash under the steering wheel. Well there it was. the control arms that direct the flow of air to where its supposed to go. The linkage had seperated and so I just put it back where it was supposed to go and voila, it started working. I don't know if this is your problem, but it worked for me. Hope this helps.
The linkage arms are white on my 2002 avalon and was easy to spot on the black plastic control box.
