3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I have 92 camry with 150,000 mileage, the engine check light comes on once in a while. I know that there are two sensors, one before and one after the catalytic. Does anyone replaced the sensor recently? I am planning to replace both of them but not sure what type of sensors to buy. Single or 4 wire? Where is the cheapest shop to buy these sensors?
That paper clip technique worked! I got code of two 5 and i checked that there is no 55 so i believe its 5. It says 5 is for oxygen sensor, which of the two sensors might this be? Thanks for your help!

I read in the previous post that there is a code 55 and it is the knock sensor. Is the knock sensor cheaper to replace than oxygen sensor?Where is this located?

On the 3VZ, DTC 55 is the code for "No signal from Bank 1 knock sensor". Usually a bad knock sensor, although could be fried wiring or a loose sensor. Real outside chance of bad ECM.
Offhand I can't remember if Bank 1 is near the firewall (bad, as in "real pain in the ass to get to") or near the radiator side. I'm heading out the door -- hopefully someone else can chime in on this one, otherwise I'll look it up tonight.
I'm not good locating the bank 1. Do you have picture or diagram showing the knock sensor for 92 camry v6 3.0?Many thanks!
Go to www.camrystuff.com , Generation 3, go down to the Lexus-specific stuff at the middle of the page (yeah, I know you don't have a Lexus...bear with me), and download the FSM for the '93 ES300. The "Engine" section in there has a good write-up on the 3VZ with locations of all the sensors -- for all practical purposes you've got the same engine.
I'm trying to change the rear o2 sensor on my 2001 I4 and the clip seems to be inside the center console. There is a grommet and I can't unclip it. Can anyone give me insight as to an easy way to change this? Do I really have to take out the center consoel?

You have to remove the driver's side seat.
