3rd Generation Is this a fair price?

Today, I was at FireStone having the snow tires removed & the Spring/Summer tires put back on. No more highway tire growl!....
The Shop dude told me that my rear struts were leaking due to rust & age! They are originals on my 1993 LE V6! This is the quote they gave me...
Recommended Parts OEM KYB Struts Lifetime Warranty $706.41
Labor $613.58
Shop Supplies $25.00
Tax (6.25%) $45.65
Total for all four done including new mounts $1,389.64
Tell me what you think for this price.......
I do plan on driving this car until it dies. I'm at 116K miles.....

It's been a few years since I had my KYBs installed, but that strikes as five or six hundred dollars out of line. Are these the GR2s, or something higher end?

sounds really expensive for just two struts/mounts for the rear alone. for about 1k you can get coilovers and if you can install them yourself or get it installed for about 400 then that is probably the best route. also you might want to ask them if they will allow you to buy the parts yourself and let them install it for you. you can pick up struts all around for 400 off eBay..

Why not do it yourself? My KYB GR-2s cost me 255, spent maybe 50 in supplies. AND you learn how to replace your struts. Just gotta be careful for the spring.

NO NO NO NO AND NO. I'd NEVER pay that much to have that done. Get a new shop. Please. Parts should be less than $500 EASY for OEM stuff. And the labor is outrageous. You'd be better off doing it yourself. But i KNOW you can find a better shop.

I just bought 2 New KYB struts for the front of my '93 Camry. I paid $115.00 each. If you're buying KYB, be careful where they are made. The original struts on your Camry were made in Japan. They have the removable cartridge evident by the big wrench nut grip where the rod goes into the strut. When picking up the new struts, check the box for MADE IN JAPAN (that's why the originals have lasted so long.) The Japanese KYB is IDENTICAL to the original on your Camry. There is also a MADE IN USA KYB that is completely different. They have a crimped non-removable cartridge retainer (where the rod goes into the strut), the welds are messy, and most of all, the dampening rate is different than the Japanese. If you buy them and don't care where they were made, at least make sure they are matching left and right (because of the different dampening rates between the USA and Japan built strut).

I beg to differ. The stock struts are actually monroes and not KYB; at least mine were.

Do you have a USA built Camry? They probably had Monroe from the factory. My Camry is Japan built, and has KYB.
