Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Looks about like my 1993 w/222k miles on it......not great but not too bad either. Will clean up pretty easy in a parts washer [using Zep cleaner full strength]
You doing head gaskets like me? I found one on each head blown as well as one intake was sucking coolant.
BTW my car is a $250 'new to me' car that was headed to the scrap yard. Shopping mainly at Rock Auto it looks like I will have about $700 [including the price of the car] in it when I am finished. That's new gaskets, machine shop labor, timing kit, thermostat, etc, etc. Gonna do it once and be done with it for another ?????? 100k?....or sell it first and make a profit

I've been told that Seafoam in the crankcase of a high mileage engine is a bad idea, ad on the "Sludge holding the engine together" idea. Truth of myth?

This has been discussed about 294328309209482394098409233 times. No joke. The general opinion is if it's not terribly sludged up, your fine to add seafoam. This guy would be fine adding some.

Thanks for clearing that up, I guess now I have a picture reference for when I take my valve cover off of wether or not seafoam is safe. This is one of those topics that I searched for hours and ended up with a massive headache afterwards There are just so many different opinion based on no hard evidence really, and looking at these pics of a 1MZ and the seafoam recommendation, it really helps seal where the procedure stands

Thats perfect. No need to seafoam or anything whack like that. I just took off my valve cover on my 5sfe with 119k and its got some "healthy" varnish buildup also, alot more then your car.
Thats a realllly clean engine.

It's clean, but it could use a bit'o seafoam. It's not gonna hurt it. Start seafoaming it before every few oil changes now and it'll live a longgggggggg life.

yea the mechanics at work are saying NO GO on that for me bc i do have a loose lifter (my ticking time bomb lol) which btw has been fixed 5000000 times and ive kinda given up so i dont want it making it worse. they are recomending since i did fix the oil leaks to run ROYAL PURPLE 5W40. and it should do some good cleaning. but i would use SEAFOAM or B-12 in the gas tank.

i always thought that you werent suppose to seafoam that much cause it could start to be not so good for your engine. i do mine once a year. usually right as spring is starting. few weeks for me till i do it always love the smoke show

Leave it alone and change the oil every 2000 miles for 3x. Call it done.
But i bet when you check the valve clearance, you find those exhaust valves right at the limit on the left front bank! (Near cam drive belt) You can tell cause the varnish is covering the base circle on the cam lobs is more than the others.
Let us know what the clearances are and make sure the breathers are clear in the valve cover PVC vents.
