Odd noise at gear shift

My Camry just recently had the rear main replaced and a semi-flush of the transmission done. He said he didn't do it all because it would most definitely die on me from all the metal particles leaving the system.

Now when I drive (I drive like a granny) and I hit about 2,700-3000 rpm and it's about to shift up, I hear an odd noise. It sort of sounds like someone put a lot of marbles in a tin can and shook it up. It doesn't feel like the transmission is hesitating at all and the rpm meter does not act weird. Car drives just fine, I just hear the noise. It's not very loud, just a bit odd. I wish I had a way to record it so you guys could hear.

Any ideas?

Is that different than spark knock? Loose marble type sound?

It's a marbly type sound. My ears aren't familiar with what any kind of knock sounds so I couldn't really tell you.

Sounds like something stupid like a loose heat shield or something. If it's not affecting performance in any way i wouldn't think it's to do with the transmission internals. There's a lot that has to come loose to do a rear main on that car, so something might just have not gotten tightened all the way.

See if you can sit still in neutral and rev to that range (slowly) and see if you hear it.
