great. which of those 2,000 pages of all manuals do you mean ?
besides i need camry gen4 97-01 (gen1 solara 99-01).

i already went through whole SFI (gen4 camrystuff.com) manual and there is only 2 BS exploded drawings about it and nothing in detail.

can anybody with hands-on experience, chime in and drop a sentence or two ?

it is very hard to see anything on the back of 5sfe even with a mirror. all i need is to know where exactly i should look for too identify those Air Assist tube ports on Throttle Body and cylinder head. so far it seems my engine doesn't have that tube and i do not understand how or why. thanks in advance.

True for most of the engine. The emissions controls got tweeked almost every year, 'tho. This may be a time to spend $15 on toyota TIS and download the exact year and model needed.

let me put it this words. i saw toyota diagrams for vacuum piping on my car and i can see this hose among others (CALLED "air assist (california)" in manuals), appears as standard part in OEM parts catalog:
17341-74710 STD. PART
for my VIN of car

i'm having trouble locating both ports it connects to, and neither i can see it installed on my engine.

Should be rubber, going between #2 and #3 injectors. If yours doesn't have the port, you may not be able to see it.

Your engine must be some kind of hybrid (Calif/Fed).

thanks. last time i saw something between #2 & #3 injectors. hard to say with this small mirror, but it might have been a bolt.

i will look for a rubber hose, i think may be routed below manifold, or below fuel rail. hard to see form top, not sure maybe from bottom would be better.

i want a california engine, don't want a hybrid

but honestly, i didn't know engine block was different for california emissions... i thought engine is same in all 97-01 5sfe models and only throttle body, iac valve assy, o2 sensor and catalytic converters are different (and ECM).

It can either be a bolt or a flat aluminum cast area, maybe with a circular mark where no drilling took place. You see the same on the throttle body.

*If* this was a Calif emissions and IAC was change to Federal (for example, when it "failed"), then whoever did it might have just plugged the air assist port with a bolt and threw away the hose. That's just speculation of course.

Sounds like some parts are Calif emissions and some are Federal. Too weird. Maybe that's another Solara combination to help do better than baseline Federal emissions. Don't really know.

yeah, i need to think of a way to see it from close and at right angle.

toyota parts guy at local dealer said that both camry and solara share exactly same engines, so it must have it as VIN says it should (all parts should be california).

Does your top exhaust heat shield have vent holes? If so it's Federal style; if not it's Calif style.

If you're sure it's Calif, then I suspect the air assist got swapped out.
