Bad MPG, Clunking & Tick Noise

Instead of posting 3 threads i thought i'd combine it

First problem is Bad MPG. It seems like i'm getting 16-18 mpg city. Is that right or what? I replaced both oxygen sensors, seafoamed the intake and gas tank and replaced the fuel filter about a year ago. Any other ideas.

The other problem is a clunking noise coming from my back struts when i go over bumps. I also get a swaying back and forth. My sway bar moves side to side easily. Are my endlinks bad? or should i replace end links, struts and strut mounts. I replaced the sway bar bushings about a year ago also.

The last thing is a tick noise coming from my driver side axle whenever i put it into gear. Whether its, D or R, i hear a tick noise. Any help on that!

I can do most of the work myself on whatever needs to be done. Just looking for a place to start cheaper.

MPG: are we talking about 1MZ or 5S? For 1MZ it is totally normal mpg in the city. You also may need to check tire pressure and raise it a bit (up to 38-40 if tires allow). Spark plugs is another thing to have replaced. Air filter. MAF (MAP) sensor cleanup.

Tick noise: do you hear that noise when you are driving, or you hear it even if you stay on the place with D or P gear on and brakes depressed? In first case it might be broken CV boot/joint, in the second - transmission.

Looks like you're running a '97 5S-FE. How old are the plugs & wires? What plugs? Check engine light on?

First thing that comes to mind is the strut mounts, but if the end links are original, they're probably having problems too.

Best guess would be the CV joint on the driver's side half-axle. Pop off the driver's side wheel and take a look at the CV joint boots (the wheel side seems to self-destruct first). Look for rips, tears, grease getting thrown everywhere, etc.
