idle solenoid control motor 96 camry rough starts. help?

ok, parents have a 96 camry with 50k on it. the camry is having a really rough time starting in the morning. it starts for a split second then cuts right off. we took it to be serviced at toyota and the technician told my parents that it might need a idle solenoid control motor. tell me if you agree with his diagnosis before i go and spend the 210 for the part.

here is what happens. turn the key wont really start will staul right out. turn the key and step on the gas for a bit and it will eventually start and idle. the idle is a little rough from then on but with no problems starting till it really cools off again after hours of not being used.

thanks in advance.

you may want to take out the iac (idle air controller) and give it a good cleaning with throttle body cleaner

I had the same problem, cleaned it out, ran great for one day, and problem came back. Try removing the IAC/ISC valve from the throttle body and give it a good cleaning out in the open.

If it still doesn't start there are some other parts that 88 LE could point out to you...

Maybe.

Have you checked the ECT (engine coolant temp) sensor?

10 - 20K ohm (-20C, -4F)
4 - 7K ohm (0C, 32F)
2 - 3K ohm (20C, 68F)
0.9 - 1.3K ohm (40C, 104F)
0.4 - 0.7K ohm (60C, 140F)
0.2 - 0.4K ohm (80C, 176F)

The resistance measurements are between pins 1 and 2 of the ECT.
