3rd Generation 93 Camry 3VZFE 'miss ?' at cold start-up

Hello All, Only owned the car for 6 weeks, so it's anybody's guess what's been done to it! 122,000 miles on it.

The more fine adjustments I make and cleaning I do the more I like the car. It runs like a top. except..........

When i start it up first thing in the morning, it almost feels like it runs on 5 cylinders for 3 revolutions.

I do know somebody has installed champion plugs and no-name wires.

If I need to replace the plugs, I would like an opinion on a lower cost alternative to platinum. I probably won't put 30,000 miles on it in the next 10 years.

NGK non-platinum # BCPR6ES-11? acceptable? Thank you

Non-Platinum plugs should be fine as long as they are specified to fit (thread pitch, diameter, length and heat range) the number you posted should be fine, but double check the application before buying. There are usually non-platinum plugs listed as alternatives. The plug wires are questionable, but if they look fairly new, they are probably o.k. (some have date codes written on them). You should also check the distributor cap and rotor. Remove it and check the spark gap points inside, replace both as a set if they are burned, pitted, or dirty with scale deposits. Also look for signs of water vapor or moisture inside the cap. Get the cap, rotor, and a new cap O-ring from TOYOTA. Here in Canada I pay only $20.00 for the cap, $8.00 for the rotor, and $2.00 for the O-ring. You MAY find these cheaper aftermarket, but check TOYOTA first, the factory parts will last 3 times longer.

Check the partznet.com (this is a dealership in PA, actually), sometimes their prices for OEM parts are cheaper than aftermarket ones.
