3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I want to switch up my exhaust system so instead of single make it dual. I'm not quite sure how to go about this so if anyone can give me suggestions/input that would be great. Thank you.
to properly do duals on either the gen3 or 4 you have to get really narrow mufflers so you can fit them on the driver side of the tire well, modify the tire well(remove spare tire) or put mufflers further down in the exahust system. its pretty expensive in most cases for no real performance gains but they can look great.
My set is a "axle"back setup, since its behind the rear tie rods. I hate it because its loud inside the cabin, but i love it because of how it sounds. Its a bit restrictive because of the OEM piping, the car seems to accelerate a bit faster in the top end, but it definitely lost low end torque.

Unless you start at the cylinder heads and run separate pipe, cat, and muffler from each cylinder head you still have a single exhaust. Albeit a single with 2 outlets.:whatthe:

Right. OP, don't expect a performance gain. There will be none. It will be purely aesthetic. Even if you run TRUE dual pipes, you still probably won't see a gain...
I think I'd like the esthetic of dual exhaust outlets. (one on each side) Anyone notice though, that most V-6's, in nowadays late model cars & suv's, actually start from a single pipe and split it for two mufflers?

there are very few cars with true duals stock I think and there is almost no room under a camry for anything lol that beige camry also looks like shit

Ya, thats a bit too much for me too. But to each their own idea of cool. A nice downturned pipe on each side, with a small resonator or something behind it.. but as we know, it would strickly be a vanity thing. No real power gains, added weight...
Makes no real car-engineering/logical, performance sense.

so as fart as single exhaust is concerned, if u remove the resonator and got an after market muffler would it run fine? whats the resonator do? just quiet it down?

That looks sooo awesome. Only if all cars came stock like this lol
Lol. True dual, man, you need to get under some modern cars, even back in the day just like ghettosled camaro, most cars run one pipe down the underside of the cabin and then split to dual exhaust. It would cost manufacturers more to make a true dual exhaust in which would be retarded on most modern cars. 4 cats, 4 O2 senors, and if you have a miss fire on one side, you're more than likely to hear it which most consumers wouldn't want anyways, matter of fact no one would want.
Anyways to Miagi and Ryan01le Thanks. The two giant mufflers i got on there are just some after market ones the muffler shop put on. I decided to go dual because of the kit, instead of having a single exhaust with a dummy muffler. It sounds nice, loud as hell in the interior. I know notice that the car picked up speed a bit quicker, lost some low end torque. But to each his own.
