Window Regulator Repair

The front passenger window on my '97 started to give me some trouble a little while ago. It didn't track right, and needed help to close properly. I figured that the track rollers were worn, and a new regulator was in order. I ordered a new one, and pulled the door panel today. Instead, I found that the regulator was fine, but most of the bolts attaching it to the door were loose; One at the bottom was all the way out, held in place by the plastic liner. Tightening all the bolts solved the problem. I lubed everything and put it back together. I guess the moral of the story is to pull the panel and check it out before you buy the parts.

i can attest to this also... I purchased a new regulator for my rear drivers side door that didn't solve my problem. It turned out to be the wiring between the master switch and the interior kick panel broken from years of opening and closing the door. Once that was fixed it still didn't work so I checked the wiring between the interior pillar and the rear door and it also was broken. I know the previous owner of the vehicle and with the way the car was parked in the driveway there was always one of their 3 children getting in the back seat so the rear door got as much use as the front. $40 for a new regulator that I didn't need. I'm with you... check all components before spending your hard earned cash!
