3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
and what are the main different between US made and Canada made?

It doesn't matter what year it is, they all have the same options. basically when you buy used you should try and find a 1 or 2 owner car so they will know what options the car was bought with when new. It isn't something like "all 99 models come standard with ABS, traction control and CD player."
I'm pretty sure that all Canadian models come standard with DRLs and i wasn't until 2000 that the US Camry came standard with DRLs
Im pretty sure ABS is a standard option with gen 4 camrys. The majority came with power locks, windows and mirrors. DRL became standard in 2000 but thats no biggie.
The CE is essentially the gutted out version of the camry, LE is mid base usually coming with a cd player, XLE is loaded out with usually a v6, camrys with leather arent that common.
I would stay away from the CE thats what i got. I love the car don't get me wrong but its missing ABS and i hate not having it in the winter. Besides that all the years you are looking for are about the same try and find the most loaded one you can for the money and stay away from the 5fse if your looking to go any place with upgrades the 4 cyl in the Camry doesn't respond that great to bolt on. But hope you can get a hold of one you will never look back. Idk if i will ever drive anything besides a Camry I love my little car. Not the fastest thing around but it gets the job done. PPL are shocked when i tell them my cars a Camry.
When I was looking up KBB value on Gen 4's, I found that the only option for a 97,98 V6 LE was auto (you could get a CE V6 5spd though), so I'm under the impression Toyota did the luxury options with the manual and the V6 for a shorter time...
I love this thread! Mine is a 5fse, with no abs or daytime running lights, and i couldn't love it more! The 5sfe handles so much better than the heavier v6, and still has enough torque to be ignorant, it doesn't loose it's breath until you hit the interstate. Having said that, i'm sure it would be easier to upgrade the suspension on the v6 and loose a little weight than it would be to get much power out of the 5sfe.
I really do dislike abs, not quite as much as I hate drl, or traction control, but it's got non of that bs to get in my way. The only thing wrong with it is the auto trans, that was the real mistake. sure it's incredibly reliable, and it is still putting up with my daily abuse with 203k on it, but it's still heavy and kills the torque from a start.
Now if you could wire a momentary push button on the steering wheel to activate the abs, then I would enjoy the option, but sometimes its just better to know how to drive without it. drl on the other hand I will never, ever enjoy. If i had my way every car would be made with the old GM pull-out knobs.

i was thinking they loaded the bajeezes out ov the 99's because its the last year of that model and it'll be easier to sell.. since the 4.5 face and rear refreshing in 2000- gave them a reason not to put all those extras in a "newer" model since it'll sell itself because it does have "new" styling.. ? feel free to correct me if im wrong.. im just throwing it out there
