99 Camry looping

4 cylinder 99 Camry, just drove it 500k trip and it was like it was starving for fuel. looping on idle, uphill worse, engine light would blink when the problem was occurring, then go out. Anyone have this problem? About 240000 kilometers on engine when I purchased it

Moved your thread from the intro section to the Camry section. These guys know this vehicle inside and out. If anyone can help, these guys can.
The Mods for this section are especially helpful.

Restricted fuel flow probably. Runs fine at idle but cuts out as you need more fuel on acceleration.

Causes can include plugged fuel filters and injectors or a weak fuel pump.

When was the last time the fuel filter was replaced?

Be careful with the lower flare nut on the filter. Some suggested that the factory used a dealer economic stimulus threadlocker on it. Bends the fuel pipe trying to remove.

Been there and done that on the fuel filter, wasn't fun and wouldn't recommend it until I ruled out a clogged injector. Not saying the FF is not the problem, just that for 10 bucks (probably a little more $Can) you might be able to get'er running good. Buy a can of Seafoam, next time you need gas pour the whole can of Seafoam in the tank then add 8 gal. of Premium and see what that does after a couple hundred kms. Got nothing to lose.

Exclamation

Having a similiar issue on 95 V6. You might keep an eye on this thread too.

Also - I put a fram filter on mine. If I had it to do over I'd say the quality of the filter removed (toyo) was 10X that of the filter installed. Get a Wix or Toyo part. Oh - it was a PITA cuz the bottom pipe is tight! You'll need a 14mm and 19. Get the two wrenches close together to break the nut free from the filter. The top banjo nut is tight but nothing compared to the bottom.

OK I purchased a filter but after reading posts I am going to try other things before I attempt it
I found oil in my number two spark plug tube. Would that saturate the wires enough to cause my problem? Also how do I remedy the oil in tube problem. I thought previous owner just missed with the oil cap but other threads here have this problem.

After wiping the oil off the spark plug wire, i noticed a hairline crack about 3 inches long, wiped everything dry and applied silicone to the wire and now no more problems. Never put the fuel filter on. Now I think i will buy some plug wires. Still worried about the oil in the tube. Could plug wire arcing burn a hole in the tube?
