Hello folks,
I have a 99 V6 (1MZFE with automatic trans) that has a toast engine and I am looking to swap in another engine. However, it's pretty hard finding an engine and when I do, I get outrageous prices. Please if anyone has a link to wwhere I can get a good replacement for a good price, I will definitely appreciate.
Meanwhile, I have found some places where I can buy the short blocks but I really don't know how difficult it is rebuilding an engine with the short block. Never done it before but would definitely like to try IF AND ONLY IF, it isnt that hard.
I'm pretty hand-on guy, so any useful information will be duly appreciated.
If you feel comfortable pulling the engine, have the tools, the time, the place, and money, take a look through here its the things you will be doing as you move forward.
If this isn't beyond your means, post up any questions. Figure you'll have a chunk of labor and materials at a machine shop too so stop and talk to those around you and see if you're comfortable with them. Check their workmanship, ask questions, and find out if they stand behind their work.
PS - what happened to the engine? Is there some reason it can't be rebuilt?
Mail order is an option too. Sorry, I don't have any links to offer for that option.

You can get a rebuilt engine from Gearhead engines. Those are the cheapest you'll find, in my experience UNLESS you find a local wholesaler that sells to the public.
I'd find one with racing experience in your local area. How badly toast was it?

I checked the rockauto price, and the price is well beyond my budget. I am only looking to fix the car and have a few years from it as I have another car at the moment (a Mazda Millenia). The Camry has better on gas is another reason I want to fix it.
I actually bought the car off a man whose daughter didnt bother to check the oil level in the car. I was told she was driving on the highway and the engine "locked up."
I figured for the price, even if I parted it, I would make a profit, so I bought it. But the intention is to actually swap the engine.
Sincerely, I haven't taken it to the shop to have it checked out. Cost much to tow back and forth.
just buy a used engine with low miles off of ebay. you just have to swap the intake manifolds and exhaust parts and etc etc, and you are good to go. its really easy that way, and youll get many more years out of the car.
