Engine Noise ? - Loud Hum

I have searched and can't find this described.

My wifes Camry: 2001 V6, 140,000 miles

Problem: Engine Hum while driving. I thought at first it sounded like the car needed to change gears and it was just high RPM's we were hearing. After driving it with her it doesnt seem to relate to the RPM's.

The sound is present at all speeds. It is loudest 65-70mph and then a little less after that. Never goes away completely. Tried revving the engine in the garage and this does not cause the sound.

Anyone have this happen or have any ideas?

so if it doesnt happen while the car is stopped, imo its probably not in the engine.

could it be the gearbox?

are you for sure that he hum is from the engine?

What exactly does it sound like? Relate it to something like bees buzzing.

Doesn't really sound like bees to me, but things sound different to everyone.

It more reminds me of a manual transmission at higher rpm's needing to shift. Just a constant loud engine sound.

What things have a sound pattern that is most sever at 65-70 mph then decreases slightly after 70?

Tires. Brakes. Maybe you need an alignment. Maybe you need struts.

i think wheel hub bearings can make a humming noise. it might be one of front wheels. there are surely other things that can make a humming noise during driving and not at full stop.

all bearings generally can make a sort of of humming sound... since it's not related to engine rpms then it probably none of engine bearings.
