if your vin starts with J its Japan built if it starts with 4 its US built there are other countries where they were built and you can look up there codes online
easier way also, the us built center councle arm res is smaller the the japanese. the japanese head rests ar also bigger i think, at least in the back they are. its the cheaters way to tell

Wrong. The bigger arm rest was an option on both J vin and 4 vin cars. No head rest differences. Look them up on http://www.**********s.com/camry/

That's the way to tell. You can also look at that sticker on your door jam too.

Awww, Crap it's a US built! Starts with a 4 in the Vin code!......
I had a J vin. It seems to me about 29 out of every 30 gen 3's i've looked at have been 4 vins. Honestly it's better... because theyre are ANNOYING parts differences. IE- the airbags are different. Along with 2093023093 other odd little things. When you're in the junk yard... be sure theyre the EXACT same part.

The longer arm rest isn't a J-vin only part...

Ok guys and girls. I have owned 7 Camry's. 2 have been J vin. All where gen 3. As for the different parts. There are very few. While there are different part numbers NAP will fit JAP in most parts. the drivers airbag is the only part I know that cant be interchanged, unless you have the steering wheel or the pads. The next thing is some cut outs in the body are a little different. One I know is the kick panel boxes. I know form recent swap. The interior is almost the same. but it is not difference in NAP and JAP, its 92-93 are better put together. There are extra bolts and screws in the door panels. The door mirror on JAP has one bolt that is 1mm different in bolt pattern. But a NAP will fit and bolt up. Seat belt bolts are slightly different. trox vs bolt. That is the only few I know.

The Following User Says Thank You to 3rd Gen Camry For This Useful Post:
Gen3 Camrys made in Japan came with rebuildable struts - meaning you changed the strut cartridge when it wore out. Camrys made in U.S. came with sealed struts - meaning you changed the whole strut when it wore out. The only exception were the U.S. built SEs, which had rebuildable struts.
The rebuildable struts saved you a little money when it was time to change them.
