3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Hi, everyone, I recently bought this '95 4cyl. Camry and have put some work into it, mainly cv axles, serp. belts, oils/fluids changed, and new front brakes.
I'd like to get a comprehensive list of Toyota OE parts to change the timing belt & related componants. I've read the DIYs on the task, but it doesn't list all the OE Toyota part #'s to get everything needed if you want to stay w/ Toyota parts. Is there a Toyota timing belt change kit? Or do you have to buy each item separately?
Here's my list so far that I need OE Toyota part #'s for:
Timing belt
Tensioner
Idler
Oil pump seal
Front seal
Cam seal
Waterpump (comes w/ gasket?)
Also, I have noticed that the engine is noisy when it's ran for a while. I really can't tell where exactly it's coming from. It's a continuous noise but not engine knocking or tapping or anything like that. It's kind've almost like an exhaust leak type of sound, but I can't seem to locate where it's coming from. The engine has around 109K on it. Are there any common issues that these engines have that relate to noises? Do you think it might be the timing belt getting loose? What would that sound like?

That kit is a great way to go. I would also consider replacing the oil pump. The last two 5sfe's I did the pump was worn a bit and I didn't feel like messing around so I just replaced it with OEM part.

If you replace the oil pump, you don't need the o-ring or the oil pump shaft seal (they're part of the pump) but there's a gasket that needs to be replaced instead. Or, you could go halfway and just replace the oil pump rotor (since it's the rotor shaft -- where the oil pump seal rubs -- that seems to wear first).

I will also need to get a valve cover gasket, oil pump rotor?/seal/o-ring, & tensioner spring. Then I think I will be set, hopefully.

That kit looks to be mostly / all OE manufacturers, but they're not Toyota parts. Not that it's a bad kit, just wanted to make sure you knew what you were getting (since the meaning of "OEM" and "real manufacturer part" tends to be blurred a lot).

That's true, these parts are not technically Toyota parts. But everything there looks like identical parts to what you would get at the dealer, with the exception of the thermostat (not sure) and of course the AC/alternator belts. It looks like a good kit I would have no problems installing that and trust it just as much as if you purchased at the dealer.
