Fuel Injection services

Is fuel injection service really neccessary or it's just waste of time and money? I have a 181 K miles Gen 4 and I'm thinking of doing it but I like you hear your opinion.

By Fuel Injection service, do you mean cleaning? If so, if you use the right type of fuel then your injectors should be fine. Cleaning is just taking them out and cleaning off the tips that inject the fuel. Over time, crud, and other stuff can start to restrict the flow of fuel from the tip. It's also a good idea to test the electrical parts of the injectors to make sure that they're still firing when they're supposed to.

If you are talking about a dealer or an independent shop hooking up a machine to your fuel rail and/or running a can of fuel injection system cleaner directly through the fuel rail, then my opinion would be no. It's not worth the money. You can do almost the same thing yourself by running a can of fuel injection cleaner through each of the next 2 tanks of gas for a lot less money. I have heard good things about Techron by Chevron. Click and Clack, the guys on Car Talk on public radio, have recommended that product.

I'm with Mike, but do advise to send injectors out for flow testing, cleaning, repair, re-test. You get report with spray/flow before/after and new seals. Of course this may only be practical when doing other related service where it's easy to remove injectors. I've used Witchhunter before with good results.

I have not done this to my Camry, but with another vehicle I was doing major top end work on that allowed access to the injectors. I had a leaky injector or two that showed up in a oil analysis as high fuel % in engine oil. After injector service there was no fuel detected in oil.
