What kin of oil do you guys use?
I've used Castrol and Mobil 5000. I just switch over to the Castro high mileage oil in the last oil change. Anyone think it's worth it? Also, anyone have any comment on Advance Autopart Oil? They are attractively cheap, so does anyone bother with them? Oh and my car have 181 K on it.

SADLY, SHE HAS MUCH MORE MODS...
castrol high mileage 10w30. So far so good, 120k miles.
Engine doesn't burn, but I think it might be seeping a bit from the timing seals since I didn't replace though.
Castrol makes some damn good oil. I poped the cover on it a couple weeks back and being my moms car 98% of the driving is city and it was pretty clean, just a tad of varnish.
High mileage oil swells the oil seals a tad so the car burns/leaks a little less. Currently at walmart castrol high mileage and regular cost the same so its no big deal.
IMO Advance Auto is a little better than Autozone. They had name brand stuff in stock when my timing belt went. All the other places had Duracrap and no name stuff.

I typically use Wally World 10w30 synthetic, unless I can find a name-brand synth on sale. Castrol GTX is an excellent dino oil, with very high detergent content -- engines run with GTX almost always look clean as a whistle. Not that familiar with Mobil 5000. Generally, I don't like high-mileage oils -- they have seal swellers in them that I really think are a bad idea unless you're trying to band-aid a leaker.
5W-30 Castrol GTX from day 1 straight at the first oil change, I switched the car over myself to 5W-30 Castrol GTX High Mileage at 120,000 miles when the car was handed down to me. I've maintained steady 3,000 mile OCI (by I, I'm also including my mom, original owner, who also adhered by my maintenance pattern) The car is sitting in the driveway with 352,300 KMS, or ~219,000 miles and the car still runs very clean. No oil consumption and no oil leaks, and it's all original seals on the engine too!

I wish oil is a little expensive though, 20 dollar for 5 quart and a filter......My Camry go through a quart of oil with both Mobil 1 and Castro GTX. I'm going to see how the high mileage GTX does. Oh, and sometimes the previous owner didn't change the oil for 6-7K so yeah...

prev owner did a crime of changing oil like once or twice until 35k when i bought it. for 2 years i ran it on every dino on shop oil change promo (i know) and 3k change intervals.
last summer started running it on synthetics (always 5w-30) Penzoil Platinum, Mobil1 FS, Valvoline Synpower to help with engine cleaning. now going back to dino (will stick to confirmed good castrol gtx) and short oil change intervals with good filter WIX/Pureone/Denso/Mobil1 plus some cleaning processes like sea foam thing and auto-rx treatment. by winter i'd like it to run "clean" finally. by now (after 1 sea foam cleaning now) i can see crankcase inside looking brighter
all i can say, if your engine is clean, mileage low and seals are good run it on synthetic and enjoy 5k change intervals ... if not then 3k intervals and good dino is the way to go.

who told you such a bullshit? i did it 2 times already and it's ok.
for cleaning cycle with additives you are not supposed to use synthetic as they have their own additive package. anyways you can switch between dino vs synthetic as you like (if leaks are not a problem when running synthetic).
