screeching noise

on the 96 4 banger that my mom drives... she told me about a noise she kept hearing.

I drove it today just to confirm it wasn't just her and indeed there is a problem.

car rolling at any speeds will make a noise coming from the left front wheel when turning slight right. This isn't a 100% happen all the time but a good amount. Driving straight down the road at 20 it can happen but not as common as if i make a slight right pull/jerk.

It makes a screech while in motion like it was bad brakes. But the checked the outer pad and rotor surface of the rotor both seem to be decent.

The noise isn't a constant, its not predictable. At any speeds 5mph or 30mph. I didn't take it any further.

Any thoughts right now to check out?

at first i was wondering if it was a wheel bearing or maybe a CV axle. As those two are moving on that side. Any good ways to test things.

Check the thickness of the inside brake pad. The inside pad will sometimes wear down to the wear indicator (a little piece of spring steel that contacts the rotor and makes the squealing noise) If the inside pad is worn down more than the outside pad, then check for stiff or seized caliper slide pins. Does the noise disappear or become less when you apply the brakes? If so, it is probably the inner pad worn down to the indicator.

Inspect your CV boot and make sure they're not torn.

Jack the car up and spin the wheel.... see if it catches, squeaks, etc.

Check out the stuff Camry6 said as well.

I'm thinking a warped rotor, or as Camry6 said, uneven wear on the brake pads. I know you stated you checked the pads, but be sure to inspect those pads for uneven wear.

my mother drives this car VERY VERY little. at never at 35+ warp rotors are hard to come by but yea...

I THINK the noise goes away when brakes are applied. I haven't tried turning right and apply brakes tho. I know if i'm on the brakes to come to a stop i rarely hear it.

Will do this weekend.

ok i had time to look at it more closely.

The noise will NOT happen when brakes are applied...

I have the axle boot just busted. The noise is COMING in that area. so I'm thinking CV axle or wheel bearing.. Too close to tell...

I rebuilt the axle about 4 years ago. This time i'm going to replace it. boot is torn but not completely broken.

What do you guys think axle or wheel bearing?

Noise is on driver side, when i make left turns the noise happens. WHen i apply the brakes while making the turn there is no noise. It doesn't happen when its 40mph+ and lane changing. I think its more on the axle... driver axle is CAKE compared to the pass axle.
