4th Generation Poor Gas Mileage - Engine Swap/Exhaust Setup??? Please help!

Here is the background;

All 1997 1MZFE non-vvti w/ auto tranny.

Spun a bearing at 135k on the oem motor. I now have a 65k motor in the car with a 90k auto tranny. When I first got it running (runs great btw), it was getting about 12mpg, but, after changing the original (and absolutely toasted) plugs out of the motor, i was getting around 20. This was with the stock headers, cat, and aftermarket muffler, no resonator.

Now, I just got OBX style headers and Y-pipe, no cat, no egr, no resonator, and just a universal muffler. Car sounds great, but im back to getting around 12ish mpg. I did a resistor mod on the MAF, which helped a little bit, but something is still funky.

This is where im at now.

The main question I have is if it could be due to the EGR delete. I basically blocked off the EGR port on the rear header, and did the same on the EGR valve on the upper intake. I have not done any electrical mods to accommodate the delete, and believe that it could be dumping fuel for some reason because of this. Any ideas are helpful. I do have a lead foot, and do canyon and mountain runs at least once a week, but before the motor swap, I was getting around 18MPG, which is basically my target. The car is definitely running super rich. I am considering getting a piggy back ECU to do a proper tune on it, which unfortunately might be the only solution. And no, there are no CELs.
