98 i4 camry spark or fuel problem????

car- 1998 i4 camry

recently my car started to drive funny like it was running on 2 or 3 cylinders. i went to check the code and got this- multiple cyl missfire, and cyl 2 and 3 missfire.

i replace the spark plug wires and spark plugs, that didnt help. so i figured the next thing was the coil pack for cyl 2/3. i replaced that today. crank the car and still runs like its on a few cylinders.

while the car is was idling i pulled the wire from the cylinder far left( if standing infront of the car). made the engine idle bloopy. i moved to the next one, same thing. made the engine idle real rough and bloopy. when i got to the third cyl(going L-R) i did the same thing, but this time nothin changed about the idle. stays exactly the same. the i got to the far right cly, if i pull the wire off the plug. it idles rough for a few seconds the shuts down.

i have replaced the plugs the, the wires and the coil pack for 2/3. im not sure what else i need to do. i still have a cel, im just not sure if its still the same thing.

also do i have my wires right in the same spot. if you're lookin at the front of the car i have 1234 cyl. i have cyl 1 goin into the 1st spot on the 1st coil pack, i have cyl 4 going into the 2nd spot on the 1st coil pack.
i have cyl 2 goin into the 1st spot on the 2nd coil pack, and have cyl 3 goin into the 2nd spot on the 2nd coil pack
so coil pack 1 has 1/4 coil pack 2 has 2/3

i know its a lot im sorry just wanna get all the details out. i need some help

Those waste-spark ignitions are kind of sensitive to plugs. What sort of plugs did you have in there, and what ones do you have in there now?

The BKR6EKPB11 is a good plug for that rig. The BKR6ES11 is going to wear out quick in a waste spark system, but it should work for troubleshooting. Wouldn't leave them in there longer than necessary, 'tho.

Yeah, probably OK. Big blue spark (not wimpy yellow)?

Is the #3 spark plug kind of wet and gassy smelling? If so, I'd probably try a compression test next -- if there's spark and fuel there, then I'd suspect either timing or compression. Since timing usually messes up all cylinders, I'd check the compression in the cylinders.

you check the injectors? / ignitor?

also check the connection wires to / from the coil packs

you have a code reader? or the cheapy jumper wire to DLC port jumping TE1 and E1?

may want to "swap" known working coil pack with suspected non-firing cyl

yea a compression test is next. i dont see how it could be timing. it was driving perfectly, then out of nowhere it just started to drive funny.

i have not checked the injectors yet. thats on the top of my list of things to do tomorrow. thats what im thinkin is that the injector(s) maybe fouled out. coil pack 2/3 (which was the messed up one) is brand new. i tried two sets of good spark plug wires on cyl3. im gonna see if i can borrow a scanner and see tomorrow.

thanx for all the feedback guys please post if you can think os somethin else to try

not sure what the real problem was, but its fixed now. i swapped the injector from cyl1 to cyl3 and the problem moved with it. so i bought two new injectors and wha la problem fixed.

so all in all i ended up replacing:
coil packs
spark plug wires
spark plugs twice
second sensor thats on the coolant neck coming off the head
two injectors
