Bad luck with my audio system, I guess

My left rear 16x9 speaker stopped working a few days ago. Is there any painless way I can find out if the speaker is still good or not? The reason I ask is because my left front speaker stopped working a long time ago and it took me awhile to figure out the speaker was working fine, it was just the headunit or the wires that malfunctioned. BTW, I still have my stock headunit. (Makes my car more unattractive than it already is.)

poke a 9v battery onto the terminals. If it moves in or out than it's not the speaker. don't leave the battery on it for very long though or you risk over heating the coil. Or if you have a DMM you could measure the resistance between the terminals.
