Steering wheel and popping noise when turning wheel

Update: The sound seems to be getting worse. When I'm going forward and backing up when turning the wheel, I hear a clicking noise that seems to be coming from the steering column. What could this be?

It first started off as a pop noise when I'd turn the wheel, which came from the drivers side axle after I replaced it. Now, it sounds like the steering wheel itself makes a pop noise when I turn the wheel at a stop.

Could be in your rack and pinion. Get the front wheels off the ground and turn the wheels left and right by hand and see if you can feel the bump. Do the same with the steering wheel, engine off. Hold the tie rod while someone else turns the wheel and see if that helps isolate the bump. USE JACK STANDS if you can't do this on a lift.
