Left outer CV boot is torn, tie rod end boot and inner tie rod boots are also torn. Oh joy!!!
Where is the best place to get these parts, besides the dealer. I want decent quality but the car is old and I don't want to spend 500 per axle.
I also noticed that where the LH axle fits into the trans, it has been seeping a little fluid, it looks to have been doing it for some time and not enough for a drip, just damp around there.
Will this leak get fixed when I replace the axle or is there another seal I need to change...and can I change it?
I searched around here and I think I can handle the axle change, I'm a little confused about the clip on the trans side that you have to force it past. Isn't there a way to loosen the clip?
you are referring to the driver's side axle right?
then to answer your question....you can always just go to napa and pick up an axle- should be around 100bucks or so for a cardone axle I believe. you can pick up the differential seal at the dealership and change it when you do the axle.
And no, there is no way to loosen the clip- your best friend is actually a crowbar (use the hooked side), which will give you plenty of leverage to pop the axle out

NAPA parts longevity, depends on how well they're made. Like eveything else car part related if it lasted too long, auto parts stores would be out of business. Your call
Thanks, I have all the parts together, going to do both sides while I am at it..Have a question...
Are there two kinds of axles for this model year? The ones in the car and the replacements I got have 6 large allenhead bolts holding them on to a hub that sticks out of the transmission/differential.
Do I still pry them off and then switch the hub/spline that is in the differential to the new axles?
Picture is worth a 1000 words if you have some...thanks..
So...just so I'm clear..I can still pry out the whole axle, replace the seal, assemble the new half shaft and jam the whole thing back in the differential..?? No clips to remove??
Sorry, I'm just having a hard time with the crow bar aspect and don't want to break anything...
