I'm going to have to replace the ECU on my '94 Camry

I've ordered a replacement part and removed the glove box. But, it's not obvious how I remove the unit to replace it. Below is a picture of the ECU and upper bracket. It appears there is only the one screw holding the unit to the upper bracket and it simply rests on a bottom rear bracket. Is this correct. There's a awful nest of wires in there, obstructing my view, but I can't see any other attachments.

Just remove the bolt, not the screw, at the top right of the picture. There should be a bottom bracket with a bolt attaching it to the firewall, too. Leave the brackets attached to the ECU and remove!

You only need to remove the three or four wire clips on the front of the ECU, nothing else.

Do you mean this nut?

It looks like that just holds the gray box on the right. Does removing the gray box provide access to the bracket that's bolted to the firewall?

Here's what it looks like from underneath.

The overdrive lamp is flashing and the cars seems to start off in high gear. After a couple of hours of research, it seems like these symptoms may point to the ECU.

Yeah that nut. And the two nuts on the bottom picture in the lower right hand corner as well.

There's a whole lot of other stuff that could cause that. Unfortunately high gear starts are very hard on clutch packs. What's the fluid like and what is the WHOLE History on this thing if you don't mind sharing. . . . How many miles?

That's why I'm now shifting manually.

Hey i_am_jim,

I'm having the exact same issues with my 1993 V6 Camry. Damn car has been a real pain and a money pit to say the least. I recently spent $500 replacing the Automatic transmission with an imported one from Japan, and yet the same issues persists. If it ain't mechanical, then it has to be electrical, right??

So I too have done the research and am left to consider replacing the ECU. If you can, please share with us your results. Thanks ahead of time, man.
