Hello I am new to this forum but not cars I searched for similar problems but none quite like what I am having.
Ive got a 93 Camry 2.2L engine ran fine up until 202K miles and all of a sudden it started stuttering after driving for about 25 miles. I noticed it one night on the way home at a light I pressed the gas it is died briefly then cam back on strong no problem. Today i drove about 30 miles and while on the highway it started stuttering and hesitating like it could barely make it up inclines. Got off the road safely and it would crank and die.
There are no MIL's showing and no other problems until this. I had to keep my foot on the gas and brake and run stop signs to get it home. I had to keep my foot on the gas so it wound not died. Seems like a clogged cat but Im not sure it it could be anything else.
If it is the cat which one: the one on the manifold or downstream of the O2? Where can I find one ? Or what else could it be??
There was a lot of black smoke coming out of the tail pipe if that helps. If it was the injector what is the issue it is dumping too much fuel or not enough ???
Also when I stop at a light it is like a 3 sec delay from when i push the gas and it actually takes offs but its not a slip or trans related it is really odd. It is like it gummed up or something. I may Seafoam it first then run some 94 Octane
Hmmmm...generally, clogged cats aren't temperature-dependent -- they either suck or they don't.
Black smoke = unburned fuel. Either too much fuel, not enough air, crappy spark or lousy compression.
Given the age of the car, I'd check the coil (in the distributor) next -- failure of the coil tends to be heat sensitive (the classic failure is the car completely dies after it's been driven a while). If you can get this to fail in a shop environment, use a test plug to see if the spark has gone from big and blue to wimpy and yellow.

Will do I thought about the Coil and it def could be the issue never swapped them I changed the T belt and valve covers the ignition system was still fine. I could try taking out a plug and turning it over to see if it sparks at all while still plugged into the wire
Really? A bad fuel pump caused an over-rich (black smoke) condition? Who'd of thunk it?
Thanks for the follow-up
Yeah it was odd all around still gonna check injectors but the line was dry and there was no smell of gas on the dipstick so I knew it had to be the FP
Give it a tune up. As said by others, PLug/Dist/Cap&rotor and yeah check the fuel-pump that would be my guess. Its going bad probly a good time to swap out injectors as well ^_^
Hmmm, who would have thought it was a fuel pump! I was honestly thinking it was your sprark/ignition system.... But yeah, good on ya to keep us updated
