97 camry won't start

Hi guys,
I'm new to this forum and just wondering if any of y'all can help me with this problem.
I have a 97 Toyota Camry 4 cyl (my first car) and this morning there was a loud grinding noise after i turned the key as if something broke. Now the car won't start and i have to get it towed, was just wondering what could be the problem so i at least have some clue when it's at the garage.
Also headboard light is on but no beeping when car door is open.

would appreciate any answers
thanks

Often the grinding noise is an early start of a starter failure. However, many times, you can turn the key again and it will turn over fine. Yours grinds every time you try it now?

The dome light should be on when a door is open. Only time you would get a chime noise is if you have your key in the ignition cylinder and engine off when you open the door (to remind you to take your key out of the ignition and take it with you).

Yeah grind is from your starter, as 93cel said it should kick over when you try it again. Check the charge on the battery, just for grins. But start looking for a new starter... junk yard auto-parts store. Its easy to replace prob take you ten minutes at most
