1999 Camry Tires Options on Standard 14" Wheels?

Hi,

Would like to get additional body-ground clearance height - standard tires are 195-70-14, while fine for normal driving, provide a lot of scrapes over event the smallest parking lot bumps.

Can I use 195-75-14s? Looks like about 0.7 inches of increased diameter ... 2-3% difference in speedometer readout. Would there be any issues with driveability?

Finally, would 205-70-14 (about same as taller sidewall on 195s) or even 205-75-14 (another 0.6 so total of 1.3" additional clearance) work about the same? Additional 3% error at speedometer.

Will any of the above "fit" wheelwells and suspension?

I recognize 15s would resolve a lot of issues, and I have looked for used wheel/tire combos on Craigslist, etc, but haven't found any - since this is a utility car, figured I could just keep wheels and try and skin it this way.

Thanks for your thoughts.

As long as the tire will fit under the lower spring mount it will be fine as in rolling down the road. The difference in the sidewall is what the concern is. The taller the sidewall the more flex the tire will have, depending on driving habits it might be a factor. The car may feel like is has more roll when cornering.
