Hi guys, its been a while since I have posted on TN and its my first post on the Camry forum.
I have been using my father Camry for the last 2 months since I sold my Celica and yesterday I got the CEL to flash, the engine seemed to die (seemed because I was going 20 MPH, lost power momentarily, dash lights went on and had to turn the ignition while in neutral to get the engine back all this while rolling) started the engine and got on my way, there was no loss of power, idle was smooth at traffic lights and nothing else happend during the rest of the day.
This morning it was another story, I started the car normally but the CEL light went ON and wouldn't go off like the previous day, I manage to roll out my drive way but the car felt heavy (as if towing a boat) and WOULD NOT rev higher than 2.000 RPMS event at WOT, so I just circled the block and returned home where I pulled 2 codes from the ECU.
Code 24: The intake temp sensor was disconnected from the harness (some lame mechanic failed to reattach it)
Code 31: witch looks like the MAP sensor (or ECU)
Now Im familiar with the 2nd Gen 3S-GE Celica but where on earth is the MAP sensor located on a 94 Camry. Im I right on my diagnostic or there something else I should be considering in this case.

The MAP sensor is up on the driver's side firewall. It has a electrical connector going into it, as well as a small vacuum line. Usually a small blue-ish part number label on the top (the '94 should be something like part # 89420-33010).
DTC 31 is "open or short in MAP sensor" -- could be the same idiot who left the IAT sensor disconnected didn't do a good job of reconnecting the MAP. MAP sensors are pretty tough -- they don't fail very often.
With a voltmeter and a little vacuum pump, you can check the MAP before just shotgunning it out. The FSM at www.camrystuff.com, Generation 3, section eg1 has a lot of good info in that direction.
Thanks for the help, I will be checking it out this weekend cause Im a little short of time right now but getting the car back on the road is a priority

Ok so I finally got around to test the MAP sensor.
I got 4.95 Volts on VC-E2 on the sensor connector.
Also got 4.95 Volts on VC-E2 connector ECU side
I only got 3.54 Volts on PIM-EC2 although I could'nt use the pressure test since I dont have access to a vacuum pump.

Ok so I finally got around to test the MAP sensor.
I got 4.95 Volts on VC-E2 on the sensor connector.

I only got 3.54 Volts on PIM-EC2 although I could'nt use the pressure test since I dont have access to a vacuum pump.
4.95V is fine for the 5V side of the sensor. Since Caracas is at 900m, 3.54V is reasonable for the PIM-EC2 side for a non-running engine.
Sorry, I forgot to update my profile, Im currently living in a beach city, as a matter of fact I live 1 block from the beach so its probably 3 mts ASL and yeah I still get the DTC 31 after resetting, sometimes it just flashes de CEL light on the dash and goes away but other times it just stays there and rips hell with the idle.
I maybe sending the ECU for a check tomorrow depending on forum member replies

Since the DTC comes and goes, I'd start doing tap / wiggle testing -- tap the sensor while the engine is running; wiggle the connectors and wire bundle. Helps to have someone inside the car while you're doing this, since you may not tickle it enough to hear it in the idle. Push comes to shove, a junkyard MAP shouldn't be too expensive -- subbing in one of those should give you a go / no go on the sensor.
UPDATE: After much voltage taking, cable wiggling to no avail I took the car to the stealership and had it returned yesterday.
The car sat in the stealership for aprox 3 weeks, at first they though it was the MAP sensor eventho I had explained that voltages where ok, they replaced the old one only to come up with the CEL light still going off with a Code 31.
They then checked the ECU, it turned out to be there was some king of short in it, since they didn't have a replacement they asked me if I knew a qualified tech that could fix it, I said yes, took the ECU and got it fixed, took the ECU back to the dealers to have it installed. They returned the car back yesterday afternoon.
All was fine and dandy until this morning when on my way to work the car started acting up. CEL light on again only this time Im getting a CODE 14 (ignition signal missing), I called the dealership again to complain and Im taking it back this afternoon again.
I wanted to know if anyone has had the same experience. A few months ago I think someone posted something similar. Is this normal (Code 14 as a consecuence of the CODE 31) or was the CODE 31 covering up the real problem with the ignition?
