I was going to buy the toyota vip alarm system but i just read the thread about how it goes off randomly my grandma has a toyota highlander and she had the same exact problem at first it was at night and i thought someone was breakin in but it kept happening and i was like this guy wont give up and hes quick as fuck lol eventually i caught on haha anyways to the point i live in a area that people like to steal shit in no joke ive been through like 4 bikes a big wheels jeep and a tonka truck and i really would sleep better at night with an alarm system my question to you guys an girls is if you could recommend me one that you like and don't have problems with. These chop shop nightmares must end!!! lol
On my old camry, I had a Viper system. I don't remember what model. It was good, I just got tired of having an alarm though because I would leave the car and forget about it and open the doors or something without disarming it, and it would go off and I would freak out haha.
Well you could do your own alarm..... I bought a big horn from parts start and a kill-switch. Mounted the horn under the passenger dash hooked the switch up under the car and ran power through the dome light in the car. Just remove the window pillars pull the roofing down a bit and wire it in. So when i go in at night i click the switch an if my door is opened the new horn goes off. Its just enough to scare someone into leaving. Mind you that once the door is shut again the horn stops... lol as i said not fool proof

if you want a nice high end alarm for cheap you could go with the Viper 5701 Class A refurb, its what I had on my camry and now I have it on my maxima, comes with remote start and everything, i got it for 130 shipped
It doesnt come with the manuals or anything but that is all available online
I agree with LuvLexus. I also have one for sale if you're interested. Are you planning on installing yourself, or having it installed professionally?

Im not sure yet my friend did his so im sure he can help me with mine how hard is it to do im pretty handy? I looked at the Viper 5701 Class A alarm system an its pretty cool is there a way to not hook up that remote start im a little worried i would press it on accident and waste all my gas lol it is really cool though. I was reading some more on this alarm and saw that i would need a bypass and a new key from the dealer or something here's the post i read.
"Along with the bypass don't forget the cost of an extra key from the dealer that the bypass needs to work. If your car has a chip in the key, odds are you will need the bypass and extra key. Depending on make of car the key can add upwards of $100."

I had a similar Python system with remote start. Python and Viper are both made by the parent company Directed Electronics, so systems tend to be similar. I installed mine by myself on my 96. It's not bad at all on the gen 3 camry... IF you know what you're doing when it comes to wiring. If you have a friend who has done it before, definitly have him help you.
Don't be afraid of the remote start! Most systems have a safety feature you can turn on (you'll have to press the remote start button twice).

ok thanks man i will probably buy that system its pretty affordable and people like it so why not. Would i need the bypass and extra key because some guy said in a post somewhere that i would?
I have the Python 991 on mine, the one with the newer looking remote/rechargeable battery. I'm pretty satisfied with it. I don't need an extra key even though I have remote start. Both the stock and Python alarms can be armed/disarmed with the respective remotes. The range is one-mile but only in optimum conditions. I got the proximity and tilt sensors added on which gives me peace of mind. The proximity is set so that the warning chirp comes on when somebody is within 3 feet of the windows, and goes full blast when they're right up against it. It's good because I can choose to have warnings off, yet full trigger on. The only bad things about it are that the shock sensor isn't too sensitive and it takes about 4-5 seconds for the page to be sent to the remote. Other than that, it's a pretty good alarm.

You won't need an bypass or an extra key like '_' said. I had the Python 571 system (i think) which is similar to his. I also added on the proximity sensor... very cool stuff.

Yeah, I like the proximity sensor and the adjustability settings. I also like starting the car as people walk by. Lol, the reactions/looks are funny as hell.

That's awesome man i didn't even know that existed lol so like the proximity alarm is a python product or is it an aftermarket thing from another company? The python you mentioned looked awesome it had a lot of cool options its 230 dollars though an im kind of leaning towards the viper unless i can get a deal on it.....
