Trouble shifting from 1st to 2nd

Hello,
I am trying to find out why my friends 94 camry is having a hard time shifting from 1st to 2nd. It wont shift into second no matter how high the RPMs go....but it will shift if you accelerate up to about 3500rpms then take your foot Off of the gas, then it will shift into 2nd around 1500-2000 rpms. The rest shifts normally. Going into passing gear works fine as well... When shifting into reverse there is a short delay (2-3 seconds) before it engages.

I did a tranny filter kit on it and noticed the filter was dark in color but still had hints of redness to it. And it didnt smell burned. The magnets had very little shavings on them...

Can this transmission be manually adjusted? Has anyone else heard of this issue?

Thanks

Since this is an electronic tranny, I'm not sure. Have you checked the solenoids, or tried to shift it manually?

Question Shifting

I tried shifting it manually last night after the filter change but I didnt really notice a difference. Solenoid is next on my list to check.....Along with the cables on the throttle assembly.

Anyone know if the rubber gasket i just installed on there can be reused if i pop it off to check the solenoid?

This will tell you if the gasket can be used and how to check the solenoid (which is suggest you do after the throttle and tranny kick down/up cable). http://www.**********s.com/camry/

Question Shifting....

I took a look at the cables....they appeared to be adjusted as according to the guidebook you supplied.

I then took it for a drive after checking all the fluids....tranny fluid wasnt blood red like it was when it went in.... several shades darker but not like the dirty brown color when i drained it.

Driving it had mixed results.... Shifting from 1st to 2nd was still a problem....but i noticed after stopping and restarting over a dozen times....that it had different rpms/mph each time it finally did shift. Also at 30mph+ if you nail the gas...it immediately slips and the engine redlines. My brother suggested it might be a sticking valve.... Is there some additive you can put in there to clean it out? or does it require surgery?

Also O/D switch is functioning....and it does lock up as normal. The car isnt displaying any codes that i can tell.... Would a malfunctioning sensor cause something like this?

3rd Generation Shifting problems...

After adding a bottle of Lucas Oil's transfix... its shifting 50% better...but its still rough and very late..... i got it to shift into second at 3k rpms by babying it.

Anyone have any thoughts or ideas?
