What type of Security System (99 Camry)

I bought a used 99 Camry about two weeks ago and was trying to get some key fobs for it. It is a 99 Camry CE with power windows & power door locks. Apparently, when it was new, it was a rental in the Ohio/Illinois area. I am assuming it had key fobs at one time but somewhere along the line of 4 or 5 owners, they got lost. Here is a pic of the security console in the car:

Any suggestions on what system it might be? My local Toyota parts person at the dealer was no help.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Dave

Dave! I believe it's the Toyota RS2300 system. Check toyotareference.com... theyre might be something mentioning it in the brochures for your year. And i'm 85% sure there's programming instructions on this site if you search. If not, I know someone who has programmed these before. Ad remotes can be found on ebay.

IMO, this is security LED plate for Toyota V.I.P. RS3000 made by Fujitsu-Ten Corp.
they installed it in all gen4 camry based models until 2000 i think.
I had a toyota reference bulletin stating clearly which years and models had what alarms systems also describing matching remotes (FOBs). would have to look it up at home.

try locating the alarm ECU, it will tell you exactly what it is, besides you need access to it if you want to add new FOBs (from ebay $38 shipped).

^ RS2300 must have been for the gen3 then. Definitely check for him!

edit: The alarm ECU is usually located under the driver's seat or under the driver's side dashboard. Check there.

found the reference TSB EL010-07 (revised Nov 9th 2007)
http://www.scribd.com/doc/9766159/TSEL01007

it states that camry models 1998-1999 were equipped with RS3000 VIP alarm system compatible with gray FOBs (black ones won't work work with it). it's exactly the same alarm model and FOB model as my 2000 Solara uses.
camry models dated 2000-2006 use RS3200 alarm system.

you can get the FOB (remote) from ebay, they are used:
http://shop.ebay.com/i.html?_nkw=BAB...sacat=0&bkBtn=

Programming instructions are trivial. once you find ECU you have to press the magical green button on it and then you have 5 seconds to press the top button on FOB to make it registered in ECU memory. that's it.

I'm unsure about location of alarm ECU on camry, probably as stated above it's behind the driver knee panel or something. on my Solara it was under center arm rest, but that's a different car. highlanders have it under the driver seat for example, so it varies between models.

user manual for RS3000 here:
http://www.parksoffroad.com/tacomamo.../alarminfo.htm

and here:
http://www.4runners.org/writeups/rs3000/index.html

good luck!

Thanks so much! That will be my project for this weekend, to crawl under the dash area. It's not under the driver's seat that I saw. My other 99 Camry XLE had the Securikey+ system and I was able to order a couple of key fobs from a Toyota dealer in Texas for around $26 each versus $47 at the local dealer here in Oklahoma City.

Thanks again,

Dave
