I have two garage openers for the parents and my place since I've traveling a lot. My driver's side visor is broken and was wondering if it's a plug and play or there is extra wiring needed?
Probably going to need extra wiring. 100% it's not plug and play. Gotta do some soldering and heat shrinking. I THINK the homelink mirror just needs a 12 volt supply and ground wire run to it, which would be SUPER easy. I haven't done any research though. I need to see how many wires are running to the ES300 mirror. This is one of the projects I have planned for my next camry, actually.
edit: Oh it's in the visor for an Es300. I thought it was in the mirror. My guess it that it runs to some kind of transmitter. Also, you can buy aftermarket homelink mirrors.

I put ES300 visors in my 99 Camry. If I remember correctly it only had one plug with two wires. (12 volt and ground). The entire homelink unit is in the visor so no extra transmitter is needed. The visors are much better than the stock Camry visors. They even have lighted mirrors on both sides- just flip up the door and the lights come on. You can tap into the dome light for power. I decided I wanted to not have the homelink function work without the key in the on position so I wired mine to the cigarette lighter. That way no one can open my garage unless they have the key to the car.
Overall not hard to do and much recommended!

Hmmmmm. Anybody know if there are significant differences between the Gen3 and Gen4 visors? The driver's side visor in my Gen3 is flippy-floppy, and I wouldn't mind a Homelink instead of a separate opener. I'd be chuffed if I could do the mod without a bunch of hacking and slashing.

So mines is an XLE and it already is lighted for both the passenger and driver's...would any modification be needed then?

That just means 2 wires are already run to the visor. You could probably get away with using those to power the homelink and mirror lights easily.

Anyone know what the year interchange for this swap might be? I have an '01 camry with the typical "self destruct" mirror covers. I have seen plenty of ES300 sunvisors on ebay but I'm not sure what year range to look for.
