4th Generation Gen 4 Owners: Rim/Tire question.

215/60/16 on Drag DR-16's x7"w. Yes or No?

Question is:

Will it rub @ 215 or should I go 205?

97-01 gen4 camry were also made with factory stock 205/60/16 setup, mounted on 99-01 Camry Solara gen1 (same chassis), so i think you are fine with 205 kinda safely... though i got no idea about offset and stuff ...

215 is going to make the tire look pregnant on a 7" wide wheel. Play with this. http://www.rimsntires.com/rt_specs.jsp

edit: typical camry offset is about +38, IIRC.

no...it wont. I had 225s on 16x7" wheels and a 55 side wall and theres barely any bloat. you have to understand that any tire with a 50+ side wall will have some bloat because thats more sidewall to flex. 215 is the PERFECT size for any 7" wheel.

GEN 4 I4s came with 195/70R14's stock (that's 1997-1999)
GEN4.5 I4 came with 205/65R15s stock (except for 2000 CE, which still came with 195/70R14)

If you want to keep the overall tire diameter about the same with a gen4 I4, a 16" size that will work well is 205/55R16s
If you want to keep the overall tire diameter about the same with a gen4.5 (except 2000 CE), a 16" size you want is 205/60R16 or 215/55R16.

I have 205/60R16s on my 2000 Camry LE on 16X7 Fondmetal Wheels with 42mm offset. There is sufficient inside clearance to install 215s without rubbing the struts, but with this offset, it's the outside you want to think about.

Note: 2000-2001 Camry XLE V6 and 1999-2001 Solara V6 SLE models came with 205/60R16 tires stock, but was mounted on a narrower rim (16X6)

You can see on the photo below the front tire/wheels come all the way out, the sidewall sits pretty much flush with the edge of the fenderflare. It looks good the way it is, but if I install 215s, it will stick out just a tiny bit.

That's my right front wheel.
