3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I just did a search for "radar detector" and I see nothing with those two words in the topic.
I'd like to get one eventually.
What are some really great brands/models currently on the market? I checked eBay and there's one that comes with three different sensors that you place around the vehicle. I didn't even know those existed! Does that help?
Recommendations are appreciated! Nothing over $500 would be nice. And I prefer a boxy look, over those that try to be "high tech."

I've been hooked on the Cobra Radar Detectors for 7 years now. Its just nice having one as a backup, just in case you didn't see that cop a few miles ahead of you, not saying i was doing anything wrong.
^ I've been lucky enough to test drive all the top of the line radar detectors myself. I have a buddy who makes a hobby of them All Cobras are worthless POS. Seriously. Yes, they will pick up cops, but they will miss a lot more than they catch and the shear number of false alarms you will get will make you pull out your hair and run to Cobra over with your car.
V1 is the best by far in my experience. I would join radardetector.net and work from there!!

Little mini-bump here, but I just did some research. I read this article: http://www.radarroysbuyersguide.com/ and even though you do have to sign up and answer a few questions, it's worth the read.
I decided i'm saving up for the EDIT: Escort Redline, since it's radar detector detector proof... and I'm in VA where detectors are illegal.

+1 on the Valentine One. The directional arrows indicating where the laser(s) are coming from is one of the best features of it in my opinion. No false alerts, easy to use, gets the job done and pays for itself in no time. What more could you ask for?

In my case, stealth operation (RDD proof). Detectors are illegal in Virginia. The Escort Redline actually has better range than the V1 too, surprisingly.

Yes for the arrows, , , but for no false alerts? You live in the country?

Haha nope, I live in Auckland, the largest city in New Zealand. I've only ever had one false alert, and that was from a fake radar mounted at the top of a lamp post once (an idea the police had to slow people down that use radar detectors). I've used other radar detectors in the past that used to go mental when driving past service stations etc, but the Valentine One only seems to sound when it detects an actual cop, even when I'm right in the heart of the city. Easily one of the best things I've ever bought
